Haypi Dragon Review
Searching around the App Store for classic Worms-like games might not be that hard, you will find many varieties of the game. This sub-genre has been gaining more popularity over recent years, and more and more of these games are being published. While there are plenty of them to choose from, most are focusing more on single player level-based system. We found a very strong candidate for a more freemium based title, which also includes online multiplayer mode, called Haypi Dragon.
I remember playing similar MMO game back in early 2000′s, which was called Gunbound. It was very fun and extremely popular title at its time. Surely, I am very excited to see Haypi Dragon, which also incorporates some fundamental elements from it.
As the name implies, players are using a variety of dragons to play and shoot, you can also train your dragons to make them stronger. Overall, the main game includes single player mode, passing through several worlds, each with several levels to complete. There are also online play elements, for example, you can team up with other players to beat boss enemies. PVP mode is also available, where you can try to test your dragon and shooting skill against other players online.
The core mechanics are simple. Like any other catapult style games, you can aim and shoot by dragging your finger across the screen. It’s turn based, and you are given only several seconds to make your move. You can also use skills by touching one of the skill icons on the bottom bar.
Passing each level will earn you stars, and a lucky spin which can earn you additional valuable goods. Yes, it is a 3-stars based system as usual, where you will need them to unlock further levels or worlds.
Players are also given some quests/tasks to complete, with nice rewards waiting upon completion. Standard daily reward is also given for all players.
Aside from the single player and online mode. There are other activities you can do, you can also send your unused dragons into explorations, which usually requires some time to finish, but you will be nicely rewarded.
Other activities includes, item synthesis (where you can try to create new items or stones by combining several items together), and magic matrix (where you can further enhance your dragons by equipping them with magic stones).
You can go to the shop section as well, to purchase many kinds of useful items, although it is fully optional, using several tradable items including Haypi coins and bronze.
When you are ready, you can test your skills against fellow players by going to the PVP section. You can create a new room and specify the game rule/setting, or you can join existing waiting rooms from the lobby. Other competitive features include leaderboard (rank list) and achievements system.
Haypi Dragon is free on the AppStore, with optional in-app purchases, it is available as a universal app and works on your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
