Here’s What’s Expected Of The Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III

As we all know, Samsung has heavily hinted that its next flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S III, will be launched on May 3. And as you’d expect, the upcoming launch of the much-awaited smartphone has fueled the lot of assumptions as to what we’ll probably see with this new Samsung flagship.

Samsung announced an invite on its Samsung Tomorrow site of an event where we can all “meet the next Galaxy” on May 3 in London. The event will be hosted by Samsung at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London at 7 in the evening. Those who want to go earlier, however, will be let in 6 p.m. I’m thinking the date isn’t a coincidence: “3” has a meaning and it could may well be the Galaxy S III. Why else would Samsung tease about meeting “the next Galaxy” and place the date to be May 3?

Anyway, here’s what’s currently swimming out there as to what we’ll exactly see in the Galaxy S III.

As for the specs of the Galaxy S III, we’re hearing that it would have a quad-core Exynos CPU clocked at 1.5GHz. It will also reportedly sport 4G LTE capabilities. Taking advantage of that download speed is a 4.8-inch 1080p Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen (1,080×1,920 pixels resolution) where you can view videos in their full-HD glory.

Furthermore, we expect to see Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich coated with Samsung’s TouchWiz powering the device. Other details such as an 8MP rear-facing camera capable of 1080p video recording have also surfaced. Samsung is also said to include a 2MP front-facing camera on the Galaxy S III.

Perhaps more interesting, Samsung is also expected to use ceramic as the casing for the Galaxy S III so expect it to be one tough smartphone. Interestingly, the invite shown here also hints that apart from ceramic (as could be symbolized by the whitish blob), Samsung may have also used a bluish brushed metal material.

As for the design of the device, we honestly don’t have an idea. However, we have an idea about the release: it will be very near May 3 if the event being hosted by Samsung in London does turn out to be the Galaxy S III launch which we’re quite inclined to think it is. Why? Because Samsung has said as much.

Back in February, when Samsung was expected to launch the Galaxy S III at the Mobile World Congress 2012, they denied it saying the launch will come at a later time. When that later time was rumored to be April, Samsung denied it again. Samsung’s reason, they said at the time, was that they plan on having the launch dates and the release dates closer to each other. This has fueled rumors that the device will be made available the same day it’s launched. So the release of the Galaxy S III can be May 3 as well if you follow this line of thinking.

Furthermore, there’s talk that Samsung, apart from launching the phone in London, will also have simultaneous launches in other key cities around the world. This would include cities for each major market. Samsung is also said to have struck a deal to make the Galaxy S III the official phone of the 2012 Olympics hence the major launch in London.

That’s all for now but we expect more details to surface as the days to May 3 pass one by one.
