FlickPig Review – The Story Of The Three Little Pigs
What would it be like if the classic story of the three little pigs is made into a cute action puzzle game for iOS? Hmm, perhaps that’s what we will get here in FlickPig, by Prope. For your information in case you don’t know, the mastermind behind this game is the same person who created the legendary retro game, Sonic the Hedgehog. And actually, I do think there are several familiar elements taken from Sonic for FlickPig.
The story of this title revolves around three pigs (well, actually they are more of piggybanks). One day, some nasty wolves broke into their house, and stole their coins. Now, their quest is to track these wolves and retrieve their coins. Thankfully, there are trails of coins scattered around the neighborhood. And now here is your turn to help them.
Your task is to guide them to follow these trails, to collect as many coins as you can, while avoiding lots of obstacles. The game mechanic is quite unique. Here you are controlling 3 of them at once, each on their own lane. You can swipe them to switch their lane, and it’s possible to have them stacking on each others. You might ask why we should stack them. The reason is, you will need it in order to finish each levels perfectly. There are coins which are unreachable without stacking them so they can reach those coins. There are obstacles, for example, TNTs, brick walls, and many others, which can’t be avoided without changing lanes, and so on.
The other part of the game which is exceptional for me, is the gorgeous “pop-up” world. The game itself, and the characters are actually in 3D, with some sort of cell-shading applied. It is obvious that lots of polishing have been put into this game. The game is stage-based, grouped into several worlds with their own unique theme. To unlock later stages, you will need adequate stars, which are acquired from each stages based on your performance. Coins are also important here, as you can use them to purchase upgrades and power-ups, which will be quite vital to beat later stages, as well as some cute costumes for the pigs. In case you need more coins, you can buy more via in-app purchase.
With all its cuteness, and unique game control, FlickPig is another easily-recommended title for both casual and hardcore gamers. You can get FlickPig on the AppStore for $0.99, available as a universal app.
