appsplit’s Best Halloween Apps of 2011

Halloween is the official kickoff of the holiday season. During the month of October we spend a lot of time thinking about our costumes, candy shopping, haunted houses and all the other spooky things that make Halloween so great and fun. appsplit started looking for the top apps that will help you with your Halloween planning, celebration and putting you in the mood for this great event. We will keep this list running and updated with new apps as we find them so feel free to drop us suggestions by leaving a comment.

Glympse

Glympse is a free location sharing app available on your iPhone, Android, Blackberry or Windows phone.  There are many ways in which Glympse can help you enhance your Halloween experience.  With Glympse you can track your trick-or-treat route, save it and share it with others.  If you are meeting up with a group of friends, Glympse can help you find your way to the party.  Glympse can also be used to keep your kids safe by knowing their exact location at all times.  If you have any friends that are always late, this app will make sure everyone knows where he/she is and when to actually expected him or her to arrive from “around the corner”.

House of Horrors

Available for $0.99 on your iPhone, or Android phone and $1.99 for your iPad.  The House of Horrors app includes over 100 classic horror films featuring some of the best actors from the last hundred years.  All the films are available for free once your purchase the app and are commercial free.  You can download the Android version from the Verizon Media Store, iPhone and iPad versions are available on the AppStore.

Scary Playgrounds

Scary Playgrounds is a free app by KaBOOM, a non-profit organization looking to keep play time alive.  The app itself does not do much other than allow you to submit a scary playground near you but the concept behind it is worthy of a mention on this list.  You can visit kaboom.org to see some of the pictures of the scariest pay grounds or you can submit your own and be on your way to some serious cash all the while helping bring play back to kids lives, all in the spirit of Halloween!  Scary Playgrounds is available for free on the Android Market or AppStore.

 Pumpkin Smasher

Pumpkin Smasher is a fun and entertaining little game that definitely fits the Halloween theme of games.  You can get it for your iPhone or iPad.  Challenge your friends, parents, kids, or whomever and see who can smash the most pumpkins.

Plants vs. Zombies

This game does not need an introduction and if you have played any kind of game on your iPhone or Android phone, chances are you’ve already played Plants vs. Zombies.  If you have not played this game in a while or if you’ve never played it there is nothing like zombies to put you in Halloween mood.  You can get it for the iPhone, iPad, Android and pretty much every other platform there is.
