For some a gluten-free diet is the latest fad that celebrities are currently trending while for some unfortunate others its a reality of life and a consequence of the celiac disease. The Celiac Disease Foundation estimates that 1 in every 133 American has some sort of symptom associated with the disease. While gluten-free products are on the rise, several other food allergies are also very prevalent in our world that might not be getting the same celebrity attention: wheat, corn, dairy, eggs, fish, peanuts, shellfish, soy and tree nuts.
In comes, AllergyFree and GlutenFree Passport, an iPhone and iPad app development company that focuses on apps that help the community enjoy their eating without having to worry about their allergy or gluten concerns. The company currently has five iOS apps on the market with: iEatOut, iCanEat OnTheGo, Gluten Free Chicago, Gluten Free Chicago, Gluten Free Pizza US and GF & AF Disney World. Each app has its specific usage and benefits to provide to the eater.
iEatOut allows you to set your allergies when you first open the app. Once you do, you can go to the Cuisines tab and look into different popular dishes from Chinese, French, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Steak & Seafood and Thai cuisines and get a nice subtle warning that you might want to consider staying away from the dish or ask your serve questions before ordering, as you might be allergic to an ingredient in the dish.
In addition to the listing of various cuisines, iEatOut also features an Ingredients tab that allows you to check for your allergy concerns against close to a hundred different ingredients. Finally the app, also has a series of resources , articles, and documents for you to read to help you better understand your allergies and get you prepared for your next eating out or home-cooked meal.
